KUCHING, July 31: Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) has logged over 760,000 visitors since it opened to the public on March 9 last year.
This was revealed by Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah during the national-level International Museum Day 2023 celebration held at BCM here today.
“As of two days ago, if I’m not mistaken, the number of visitors who visited BCM has exceeded 760,000.
“We have never seen the number of visitors to a museum in Sarawak to be this much. This shows that the interest towards museums is high and as the responsible minister, I am happy when BCM becomes a place of attraction to foreign and local visitors,” he said.
Located in the centre of Kuching city, the RM308 million museum which took four years to complete is the second largest museum in Southeast Asia and Malaysia’s largest to date.
Taking up space in an impressive 30,000sqm building, BCM is spread out over five floors.
It is home to over 1,000 artefacts representing the rich culture and heritage of the indigenous peoples of Borneo and Sarawak. — DayakDaily
