9 new Covid-19 clusters detected in Sarawak today, with 4 in Serian with 110 cases

KUCHING, July 30: Sarawak saw an alarming increase of nine new Covid-19 clusters today, out of which four were detected in Serian involving several villages in different locations and an oil palm estate with a total 110 cases confirmed so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in the Sarawak, informed that the clusters are Kampung Paon Rimu Cluster, Melikin Cluster, Kerina Cluster and Kampung Sungai Duuh Cluster.

Kampung Paon Rimu Cluster, which has 21 positive cases with three new cases reported today, involved the residents of a village located at Kampung Paon Rimu in Jalan Mentung-Sangai.


A total of 62 individuals have been screened, whereby 32 have tested negative and nine are still awaiting lab test results.

The workplace Melikin Cluster which involved an oil palm estate at Jalan Serian-Sri Aman, Melikin has 46 confirmed cases with seven new cases detected today.

A total of 157 individuals have been screened, whereby 103 tested negative and eight are still awaiting their lab test results.

The Kerina Cluster with 15 cases stemmed from a few families in three villages; Kampung Cina, Kampung Kemayau and Kampung Rilih Daso.

A total of 23 individuals have been screened, whereby four tested negative and four are still awaiting their lab test results.

The Kampung Sungai Duuh Cluster with 28 cases was linked to several families in a village located at sub-district of Siburan.

A total of 64 individuals have been screened, whereby 12 tested negative and eight are still awaiting their lab test results.

All of the positive cases have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Serian Hospital, Sri Aman Hospital as well as Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) Serian and Sri Aman for treatment and isolation.

Apart from Serian, a Covid-19 outbreak at a village under lockdown at Tanjung Tuang in Samarahan with a high number of 84 cases including four new cases reported today, has also triggered the Tanjung Tuang Cluster.

A total of 553 individuals have been screened, whereby 469 have tested negative and no results are pending.

All positive cases have been admitted to the Sarawak Heart Centre and PKRC Unimas.

A new cluster was also identified in Bau, dubbed the Bunga Rampai Cluster with 35 positive cases, of which one new case was added today.

The community cluster involved four families from a village located at Banjaran Serapi near Matang here.

A total of 96 individuals have been screened, whereby 39 tested negative while 22 are still awaiting lab test results.

All patients have been admitted to the SGH and PKRC Kuching for treatment and isolation.

Of the remaining three new clusters, two were identified in Tatau, dubbed the Sungai Sangan Cluster with seven cases and Kinda KM18 Cluster with 10 cases, and in Saratok named the Peligong Cluster with 27 cases.

SDMC also declared the end of three clusters today namely Muara Tabuan Cluster and Jalan Renggas Cluster in Kuching, as well as Sungai Gamong Cluster in Meradong, after no new local cases were reported in the last 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak now stands at 84, out of which 10 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with a total of 67 more cases.

Eight newly declared clusters accounted for the most of the cases. They are the Peligong Cluster which added 23 more cases, Kinda KM18 Cluster (10 cases), Kampung Sungai Duuh Cluster (8 cases), Melikin Cluster (7 cases), Sungai Sangan Cluster (6 cases), Tanjung Tuang Cluster (4 cases), Kampung Paon Rimu Cluster (3 cases) and Bunga Rampai Cluster (1 case).

The other two are the Jalan Tatau-Selangan Cluster in Tatau which added four more cases and Sungai Sebatu Cluster in Meradong with one case. — DayakDaily
