Book on Sarawak’s maritime industry to be launched tomorrow

SIBU, Nov 19: ‘Book of Sarawak 2020 for Shipbuilding, Ship Repairs, Maritime Industries, Ship Design’ will be launched tomorrow night at Kingwood Hotel.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources cum Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development, is expected to launch the book.

The book is published by the Sarawak Association of Maritime Industries (SAMIN) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).


The association in a statement said the contents of the book include records of Sarawak’s maritime industry, the introduction of various types of ships, maintenance work, and ship design.

It also hopes to highlight the development of the state’s maritime industry through the book.

“This is to have a better understanding of how much labour the maritime industry needs, how much profit can be made, and many more so that the government, relevant units, and the industry can better understand the contribution and potential of the state’s maritime industry.

“This is the first time Sarawak has published such a book. The association hopes to publish it every two years to update the database.”

The book, which costs RM50, can be purchased through Shopee, Lazada, and PLUX.

SAMIN president Dr Renco Yong, organising chairman Ling Tiu King, and chief editor Ferdinand Wong Yiung Ying urged all guests to arrive on time and strictly follow the SOP by wearing face masks and maintaining a social distance of one metre.

It is also mandatory that attendees have completed the primary two-dose series of the Covid-19 vaccine for more than 14 days. — DayakDaily
