MIRI, Nov 19: Miri City mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang awarded Apple Vacations group executive chairman Datuk Seri Lee Ee Hoe, who is better known among his peers as Leesan, with the Miri City Mayor’s Award for his commitment and contribution to promoting Miri City as a preferred tourism destination through his writing.

The award presentation was held in a simple handing over ceremony here last night.

Also present were Piasau incumbent Datuk Sebastian Ting and several of Miri City Council’s councillors.

“Tourism has been hit hard by Covid-19 but Apple Vacations believes in the Japanese philosophy ‘Kaizen’, which means ‘change for the better’ or ‘continuous improvement’,” said Yii.

He added that living up to their tagline ā€œItā€™s a journey, not a destinationā€, Apple Vacations takes pride in having a strong foundation and a proven track record in riding through tough times.

Despite the country’s tourism sector being ravaged by the pandemic, it has not deterred them from moving forward as they foresee that the numbers for domestic tourism will be encouraging and positive.

To help boost domestic tourism, Apple Vacations launched the ‘GO APPLE CUTI-CUTI’ (GACC) campaign with an in-depth domestic tour package, bringing its first tour group to visit Langkawi during the recovery movement control order (RMCO) led by Lee.

Last year, Lee led a tour group to Miri and Mulu with a total of 55 pax in July, as well as another tour group in September with a total of 17 pax.

As a tourism industry veteran with more than 30 years of experience, Lee remains optimistic to make Miri and Mulu preferred tourist destinations through his writing. ā€” DayakDaily
