KUCHING, May 23: A book on the Rumah Sri Aman project and the history behind the signing of the Sri Aman Declaration 1973 (peace treaty) is expected to be published this year.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the Sarawak Museum Department is also working on another book about Sarawak’s green turtles and the annual Sarawak Museum Journal.
“Not many of our younger generations know about Sri Aman. This year we are seeing the 50th anniversary of the Sri Aman peace treaty, when Simanggang was named Sri Aman.
“That’s how the name ‘Sri Aman’ came about, and we are turning the place where the peace treaty was penned into a museum to commemorate the peace treaty,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.
Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, said as of 2022, the Sarawak Museum Department has published one Sarawak Museum Journal and nine books.
The books are titled “Topeng Koleksi Di Muzium Sarawak”, “Keringkam Koleksi Muzium Sarawak”, “Manuskrip Jawi Koleksi Terpilih di Jabatan Muzium Sarawak”, “Numismatik Koleksi Syiling dan Duit Kertas di Jabatan Muzium Sarawak”, “Rock Art in Sarawak”, “Permainan Zaman Kanak-Kanak di Sarawak: Etnik Melayu Sarawak Siri 1”, “Mollusca Snail: Gastropoda in Sarawak Museum”, “Koleksi Muzium Sarawak: Budaya Sarawak dan Warisan Etnik” and “The Bones”. — DayakDaily
