MIRI,Aug 19:  The Bombardier C415 plane releases 300,000 litres of water within a six-hour operation to put out all fire spots in Sector 3 of Kuala Baram today.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sarawak state director First Admiral (Maritime) Robert Teh Geok Chuan said this was the joint effort of MMEA and Miri Bomba to clear the remaining 10 per cent of peat fires in the area.

He said after today’s operation, there were no new hotspots detected within Kuala Baram.

From Aug1 until today (Aug 19) , a total of 1, 248 hectares in Kuala Baram were razed by peat fires, resulting in think haze shrouding Kuala Baram area.

Following the persistent operations in the past few days, the Air Pollutant Index (API) for ILP Miri, SK Kuala Baram 2 and Miri had improved to below 100.

“Direct target and flooding within all affected sectors in Kuala Baram will be continued until they (MMEA and Bomba) completely put out the smokes within all three sectors.”

Teh was optimistic of that their efforts will yield positive results.

“If the conditions (in Kuala Baram and Miri) continue to show a positive sign,  we will shift to Sri Aman to help battle the peat fire there.  We are ready to mobilise our asset (the bombardier C415) if requested,” said Teh.  — DayakDaily
