KUCHING, Mar 26: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak director Khirudin Drahman assured that Bomba was committed to assisting the Ministry of Health during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Khirudin in a statement today said that Bomba Sarawak was one of the agencies involved directly in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“As one of the frontliner agencies, our Hazardous Material Unit Team (Hazmat) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) are always on standby around the clock to ensure the services delivery meets the expectation of the public and also stakeholders.
“Bomba Sarawak will continue its commitment to assist the Ministry of Health (MoH) in their effort to curb the Covid-19 outbreak in the state.,” he said.
Khirudin also said that the tasks and roles of Bomba in response to the Covid-19 had been decided during the special high-level meeting (HLC) chaired by the Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali, on March 5, 2020.
He said among the tasks were conducting Decontamination and Disinfection process, preparing logistic facilities and transportation, and helping the MoH in handling the management of bodies related to Covid-19.
“However, all of this are through the advice of the MoH as the lead agency in Covid-19 health cluster.
“As of March 25, 2020, Bomba Sarawak has responded to four operation involving Human Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR) throughout Sarawak,” he added.
He noted that Bomba Sarawak so far had assisted the MoH in a cordoning and disinfection process in a hotel in Miri on March 23, 2020, followed by assisting the MoH in transporting hospital equipment from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) to the Heart Center in Samarahan on March 24, 2020.
“On March 25, Bomba Sarawak also assisted in transporting the Person Under Investigation (PUI) from Kota Samarahan clinic to SGH, including transporting PUI from Tebedu Health clinic to an isolation ward in Kota Santosa,” he said. —DayakDaily.
