MBKS has instructed its cleaning contractors to continue their works amid the MCO.

KUCHING, Mar 26: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has instructed cleaning contractors for all markets and hawker centres under its jurisdiction to continue with the upkeep and maintenance during the Movement Control Order (MCO).

This is part of its effort to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).

“The contractors has continued to upkeep the cleanliness and tidiness of the markets and hawker centres within MBKS areas during the movement control order period.

“The cleaning will be an on-going daily task for the cleaning contractor to reduce the possible transmission of Covid-19,” the council said in a statement.

MBKS advised market goers to cooperate and abide with the social distancing guidelines throughout the MCO to curb spread of the coronavirus.

There are six markets in Kuching South, namely Stutong Community Market, Petanak Central Market, Kenyalang Market, Sungai Apong Market, Upper Foochow Market and Bintawa Wet Market.

MBKS has nine hawker centres, namely Kenyalang Food Centre, Pending Seafood Centre, Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre, Hui Sing Garden Hawker Centre, Batu Lintang Hawker Centre, Bintawa Hawker Centre, Pending Jetty Hawker Centre and Jubilee Ground Hawker Centre.

All the markets and hawker centres have a combined 1,221 stalls.
