Bomba receives 723 PPE, new vehicles for operations

KUCHING, Aug 26: Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received a total of 723 pieces of various personal protective equipment (PPE) and eight new vehicles for their operations from the federal government.

The PPE, comprising 514 red firefighting suit, 52 navy firefighting suit, 100 firefighting helmets, and 28 water rescue helmet was handed over by Sarawak Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian to respective zone and fire station chiefs.


Dr Sim also handed over 21 Columbia shoes for the newly established Mountain and Cave Search and Rescue (Mocsar) team based in Mulu, four Fire Response Vehicle (FRV), three high powered Rapid Intervention Motorcycle (RIM) and one four-wheel Hilux for Bomba K9 unit.

“As Sarawak develops, we also see an increase in the number and type of risk which is becoming a challenge for the department. Therefore, we are indeed grateful to receive new PPE which will be used by our firefighters to protect themselves from danger,” said Bomba Sarawak director Khirudin Drahman during the handover ceremony today.

The PPE used by Bomba Malaysia complies with the requirements of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and will be distributed among firemen based in several fire stations statewide.

As for vehicles, four semi-rural fire stations in Daro, Tanjung Manis, Batu Niah and Asajaya will each receive the FRV.

The three RIM will go to Padungan fire station while the four-wheel Hilux will go to K9 in Serian fire station.—DayakDaily
