MULU, Sept 24: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) air unit has successfully extinguished the forest fire at Batu Bungan.

Bomba Assistant Director of Operations Tiong Ling Hii said the aerial water bombing operations was led by Captain Ahmad Fissol Ismail and his crew on an MI-171 helicopter.

“The helicopter made six scoops and dumped a total of 12,000 litres of water within two-and-half hours,” Tiong said.

The aircraft departed at 11.50am from its air base in Miri and they did an aerial survey of the site before they start collecting water from Sungai Tutoh.

The fire was reported by local villagers nearby on Sunday.

However, as there was no access to the fire site, the department was unable to send in their firefighters to the location.

At the same time, the helicopter was conducting forest and peatland fire operations in Sri Aman. — DayakDaily
