KUCHING, March 5: A body of a missing 84-year old man in Belaga was successfully recovered today after two-days of search and rescue (SAR) efforts.
According to Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre in a statement today, the deceased’s body was found floating at 5.23 pm, about 2.5 kilometres from where the victim was last seen, which is in Kampung Seberang Melayu in Belaga.
“The finding was confirmed by the victim’s family members, and the deceased’s remains were later handed over to the police for further action,” it said.
The deceased, Ngo Lalo, was reported to be missing after leaving the house on Tuesday (March 2), and the victim was last seen by his neighbours sitting in a ruai in Rh Aging longhouse, in Long Daah, Belaga.
An initial search effort was conducted by local folks around the longhouse but failed to locate the whereabouts of the victim.
Following that, the victim’s daughter filed missing persons report in the nearby police station on March 3, which prompted Bintulu fire station to deployed three firefighters led by PBK II Fabian Andy Jesi, the next day (March 4), and travelling for 220 kilometres (about five hours) to reach the location.
Other agencies involved in the operation were the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) personnel, as well as the local folks. –DayakDaily.
