Body of Sarikei man found after car plunges into swamp drain

SARIKEI, June 16: A 30-year-old man was killed after the car he was driving plunged into a swamp drain along Jalan Pasi Sarikei-Bintangor this evening.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in a statement, it received the emergency call at 6.09pm from Sarikei police.

According to preliminary information, the driver was heading to Sarikei and on his way home after work when the accident occurred.

Upon their arrival at the scene, firefighters from the Sarikei fire station discovered that the vehicle had been pulled out of the drain by a tow truck.

However, the driver was not inside the vehicle.

“This prompted firefighters to immediately conduct a surface search with rescue ropes. The victim was finally found at the bottom of the swamp drain. The victim’s parents who was at the scene said the vehicle was driven by their son,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
