Body of missing senior citizen from Kpg Kakeng, Serian, found in jungle 3km from village

KUCHING, June 6: The remains of a senior citizen, suspected to be Denis Nyawod, a 76-year-old resident of Kampung Kakeng in Serian who went missing on May 18, has been discovered roughly 3km away from the village today.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call at 2.25pm requesting assistance in recovering a man’s body from the jungle near Sungai Kakeng, before dispatching a team of firefighters from the Serian fire station.

Bomba reported that the villagers discovered the victim at approximately 11am.

The machete belonging to the victim was discovered by the victim’s nephew, who promptly returned to the village to rally the villagers for assistance in the search.

“The firefighters, along with the police, People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), and the villagers, made their way to the location through the forest trail.

“When the firefighters arrived, they handled the victim’s body by placing it in a body bag and transporting it away from the scene.

“After arriving in the victim’s village, the body was turned over to the police for further action,” the statement said. — DayakDaily
