Body of missing elderly man found in Sungai Kuap mangrove swamp

Rescuers recovered the remains of 61-year-old man at Sungai Kuap

KUCHING, March 16: The body of a 61-year-old man who was reported missing was found at Sungai Kuap by rescuers today.

Firefighters from Samarahan station found his remains at 10.45am, in between mangroves some 800 meters away from Sungai Kuap bridge along Jalan Kuching-Samarahan.

The deceased, allegedly fell from the bridge on Sunday (March 14).


His personal belongings which include his motorcycle, helmet and a pair of slippers were found on the bridge by police patrol around 9.30pm.

According to Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) in a statement, the deceased was last seen leaving his house at 5.30am that day.

Upon confirming the ownership of the motorcycle, police contacted Bomba for an emergency search rescue operation at 12.38pm.

A team of firefighters from Samarahan fire station led by PKPgB Ebby Hirwandy Sarbini was dispatched to the scene where search and rescue operations (SAR) was immediately mounted together with the police and civil defence personnel. — DayakDaily
