KUCHING, May 7: Electrical wiring on the Sungai Kuap Bridge along Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway caught fire today.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak responded to the emergency and immediately mobilised a team of firefighters to the location at 1.47am.
Preliminary investigations suggested that a short circuit may have been the cause of the fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a minor fire and identified smoke emanating from electrical cables on the bridge.
They promptly deployed dry ash fire extinguishers to put out the flames, while Sesco has been notified to take appropriate follow-up measures.
The operation concluded at 1.30am after firefighters ensured the absence of further ignition sources and verifying the safety of the surrounding area. — DayakDaily
