BELAGA, March 14: The body of a man who went missing during a fishing trip with friends last Friday (March 10) was found floating in Sungai Peliran Murum here yesterday.

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) today, the deceased was identified as Leonard Siki Anthony Wini, 29.

Bomba cited a police report lodged by the victim’s friend at 5pm last Friday, which said that the group of seven went to catch fish by netting near the river but the victim never returned to their campsite.

On the third day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation yesterday, Bomba carried out ‘surface water searching’ within a 1,000-metre radius from its control post and along the riverbank.

“At 6.30pm, the victim’s body has risen to the surface of the water, 800 metres from the control post and approximately 300 metres from where the victim’s boat was found.

“The SAR squad comprising Bomba and police personnel retrieved the body and brought it ashore. The operation ended at 8.30pm,” the Bomba report said.

The victim’s remains were handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
