The deceased's body being transferred from a boat by the rescue team using a nearby jetty, before being handed over to the police.

KUCHING, Jan 4: The body of a 14-year-old boy who was feared drowned in Sungai Daro today, was found not far from the last location he was seen.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement this afternoon, revealed the body was found by the search and rescue (SAR) party about five metres from the location of where the deceased was last seen.

“The body was found after the SAR team, together with the local folks conducted their search by utilising a traditional technique of using a thorny-rattan tree to trace the victim, by placing it horizontally in the river, which resulted in the find,” it said in the statement.

The deceased’s body was handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 4.30pm.

Earlier today, Haziefheild Abdullah, from Kampung Baru in Daro, was reported missing after he disappeared beneath the surface of Sungai Daro while taking a bath with his brother and friends, and was feared drowned.

A SAR operation was launched by the Daro fire station this afternoon, together with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defense Force (APM), People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Bomba Daro volunteer team, and local villagers, to look for the teenager. — DayakDaily
