BELAGA, June 18: The body of a 36-year-old victim, one of two men from Kedah, who went missing after a boat sank during an excursion along the river near Rh Apan Long Menjawah, has been found.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Belaga stated that the victim, identified as Balavishnu Permaloo, was discovered by members of the public approximately 50 metres from the location of the incident at 1.15pm on the second day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today.
The Bomba team retrieved the body, which was then handed over to the police for further action.
The SAR operation, mounted by teams from Bomba, police and the Civil Defence Force (APM), along with villagers, continues to scour the river and riverbanks to locate the other victim, 30-year-old Rhuban Apparoo.
On Sunday (June 16) at 4pm, the boat ferrying five people, comprising four co-workers from a private company and a boat operator, sank due to the strong current in the Menjawah River.
Three individuals, including the boat operator, were rescued, while two passengers were swept away by the strong current despite attempts by the boat operator to save them.
The four co-workers were believed to have rented the boat to go sightseeing near Jeram Menjawah Belaga, accompanied by the driver, who is a resident of Rh Apan. — DayakDaily
