KUCHING, March 24: The Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) recently held a discussion with Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) regarding the proposed implementation of geo-fencing for e-hailing vehicles at Kuching International Airport and Sibu Airport.

In a statement, Sarawak CVLB chairman Michael Kong Feng Nian said the board acknowledged the increasing congestion at both airports and that with more travellers using e-hailing services, the unregulated pick-up and drop-off process has contributed to traffic bottlenecks.

He explained that geo-fencing—a designated waiting and pick-up system for e-hailing vehicles—could alleviate these traffic issues and enhance passenger convenience.

“I also raised concerns about the issue of indiscriminate parking, where vehicles often wait illegally near the terminal while awaiting passengers. This not only worsens congestion but also creates a poor first impression for tourists arriving in Sarawak.

“MAHB has acknowledged this as a longstanding issue and has committed to taking the necessary steps to address it,” he said.

Kong further added that the board will continue working with MAHB, relevant authorities, and stakeholders to find solutions that not only ease congestion but also improve the overall public transport ecosystem.

“By proactively addressing these challenges, we can ensure that Kuching and Sibu reflect the best of Sarawak’s hospitality and efficiency,” he said. — DayakDaily
