KUCHING, July 20: A BMX cycling track is expected to be fully completed by the end of this month, in time for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) Sarawak 2024, which will take place from Aug 17 to 24.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu highlighted that the necessary equipment for the BMX track venue is nearly ready, with only the final installations and resurfacing of the track remaining.
“We are hoping for good weather to complete this venue and urge the contractor to work diligently to ensure it is finished before being confirmed and certified by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
“This certification is crucial for the venue’s use in Sukma and I am confident it will be ready,” he said during a visit to the BMX track in Bukit Siol today.
Gerald also visited the Sarawak Petanque Centre in Santubong.
The chef de mission of the Sarawak contingent reported that the petanque venue is almost fully completed, with minor repairs ongoing.
