Blaze razes eight houses at Kampung Jepak in Bintulu, no casualties reported

KUCHING, July 2: A fire broke out at Kampung Jepak, Bintulu, yesterday afternoon, razing eight houses, six of which were completely or nearly destroyed. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

According to a statement from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), they received a call about the incident at 2.35pm yesterday and immediately dispatched a team from the Bintulu fire station to the location.

Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found two semi-permanent houses severely affected, with one completely burned and the other 90 per cent damaged. Six non-permanent houses suffered varying degrees of damage, ranging from 10 per cent to total destruction. The fire did not involve any loss of life.

It took firefighters about an hour to contain the blaze, using water sourced both from a nearby fire hydrant and fire trucks dispatched from the Kidurong Fire Station.

After extinguishing the fire, the team conducted overhaul operations to ensure no residual flames remained.

Once the situation was confirmed safe with no risk of rekindling, the fire brigade returned to their station. – DayakDaily
