BINTULU, Aug 18: The RM21.5 million upgrading of Bintulu Vocational Secondary School has been successfully completed 49 days ahead of schedule without the need for any project extension.
Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the project, entrusted to the Special Project Team 2 (PPK2) of the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia and carried out by Asarajaya Sdn Bhd, was a testament to the efficiency, professionalism, and discipline of all parties involved.
“The successful completion of this project not only provides enhanced physical facilities, but it is also expected to ignite renewed spirit among educators and students while strengthening a culture of educational excellence,” he said in his text speech at the ceremony to handover the project to Bintulu Vocational College today.
The initiative is part of the Malaysia Madani government’s commitment to strengthen the ecosystem of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in line with the nation’s aspiration to produce a highly skilled workforce.
Among the new facilities built are workshops for culinary arts, fashion, cosmetology, electrical, electronics, computer-aided design (CAD), mock office, wiring, and welding technology. These, Nanta said, will provide excellent training platforms to ensure graduates remain relevant and competitive in the job market.
He extended his appreciation to JKR Malaysia, its HOPT and HODT divisions, the professional consultant team, and Asarajaya Sdn Bhd for their dedication, noting that the achievement was made possible by strong project management and seamless communication between the client, project team, and contractor.
“The fact that this project was completed 49 days earlier than the original timeline without requiring an Extension of Time is an achievement that should serve as a benchmark for future projects,” he stressed.
Nanta also urged contractors to remain steadfast in their responsibilities and ensure all defects reported during the Defect Liability Period are rectified promptly, while instructing JKR to maintain close monitoring of the facilities post-handover to ensure standards are upheld.
“The professionalism, discipline and high commitment shown are a reflection of the civil service’s excellence, and such a culture must be preserved,” he added.
Nanta said the completion of the project demonstrates how the Madani government translates its aspirations into action through quality projects, timely delivery, and tangible value for the people.
“I pray that these facilities will be well-maintained and optimally utilised so they can continue to produce outstanding generations of Sarawak for Malaysia,” he concluded, expressing hope that the college will nurture graduates of excellence in both knowledge and character. — DayakDaily
