BINTULU, June 17: The Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) Kidurong sports centre and its complex’s auditorium have been proposed to be turned into Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs) to cater for Sg Plan and RPR Kidurong communities as well as markets’ communities respectively.

Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing emphasised that the proposals to use the two locations will be submitted to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) for approval.

“The centre (BDA complex) will mainly serve the groups in Bintulu’s farmers’ market, night market and central market including their family members, while the sports centre will be used for residents from and around Sg Plan and RPR Kidurong.

“Once these centres are approved, the daily vaccination rate in Bintulu will surely increase greatly,” he said in his Facebook post yesterday after site inspection visits.

In relation to this, Tiong urged the Sarawak Health Department to deploy more healthcare manpower and resources to push out Covid-19 vaccines in Bintulu.

“Vaccination rate is increasing daily but to safeguard more lives, we must implement this (vaccination) programme as quickly as possible,” he added.

Tiong who is also Prime Minister’s Envoy to China, once again advised people to keep to their appointment time when going for vaccination so as to prevent overcrowding at the PPV.

“I want to urge everyone to reach their respective vaccination centres according to their scheduled appointment time.

There have been cases where recipients who were scheduled to be inoculated in the afternoon began to queue up at 6am. This had led to overcrowding and resulted in others people waiting under the sun.

“As a result, some people took the opportunity to take photos and post them on social media. Obviously, this came with spreading unfounded rumours and making the authorities look bad,” he said.

Tiong thus called on the people to collaborate by going according to their appointment time so as to avoid unnecessary complications and problems.

“This way, we hope that the vaccination programme can proceed smoothly to get everyone inoculated,” he added. — DayakDaily
