Bintulu MP criticises SMC for inconvenient access to UTC

KUCHING, April 15: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has criticised Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) for complicating access into the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) for fear that the public would neglect ‘checking-in’ via the MySejahtera app.

He took note that the authorities have decided to limit the use of elevators to ensure that the public ‘check-in’ properly at the UTC. However, in doing this, they force the public to stop at the third floor and then subsequently walk up to the fourth floor.

“Why don’t the authorities just post officers or security guards at the fourth floor and remind the public to check-in via MySejahtera before entering the UTC and keep the escalators working?

“The current arrangement is incredibly inconvenient and simply an abuse of their responsibilities,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong who is also Dudong assemblyman further urged SMC Market and Petty Traders Standing Committee chairman Councillor Albert Tiang to rectify the situation and open up the elevators to the fourth floor instead of continuing on with the unreasonable arrangement.

“There were elevators that were working perfectly fine that go to the fourth floor but now people have to all out of breath before reaching the UTC.

“Some people have even mistakenly thought the lifts are not working and walked all the way up the stairs to the UTC.

“I really hope that Albert Tiang would listen closely to the people’s feedback when encountering issues he does not immediately know how to solve. As a member of the Sibu Municipal Council, he needs to provide the best quality of service to the people, not flaunt his authority and create more trouble for people,” he added. — DayakDaily
