KUCHING, April 16: There will be no more free Covid-19 vaccination for children aged five to 12 after May 15, says Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

A total of 286,000 children from this group have received their first doses and 46,000 their second doses at present.

“We will need 8,000 more to come forward to reach 80 per cent (vaccination rate of total eligible children aged 5 to 12).

“To reach 100 per cent, we need 66,000 more,” said Dr Sim when interviewed by a local radio station yesterday (April 15).

From the proven vaccination records for adults, he said Sarawak could achieve a better figure in terms of vaccination for children, urging more parents to bring along their children for free immunisation while the service is still available.

Touching on the second booster dose recommended by the Ministry of Health (KKM) recently, he said there are about 306,000 eligible individuals who are 60-years-old and with serious comorbidities in Sarawak.

He also noted that there about 3,000 Sarawakian who fall under the category of immunocompromised children aged 12 to 18, that are advised to get their second booster shots. — DayakDaily
