KUCHING, Nov 18: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has called for a meeting to improve safety protocols and crisis management measures following repeated industrial accidents in Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP), Bintulu.

He noted that another explosion has rocked a factory in the SIP yesterday (Nov 17), raising alarm among residents.

While no casualties were reported in this latest incident, it has amplified public concerns about the safety protocols and crisis management measures employed by the industrial operations in the area.

“To ensure public safety and minimise risks, I urge the Bintulu Resident’s Office to immediately convene a special meeting on this matter.

“All factories within the Samalaju Industrial Park must take part to improve their industrial safety management,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong said the meeting aims to ensure the factories implement robust safety mechanisms and establish comprehensive crisis response protocols.

This would enable all parties to quickly respond to similar incidents, preventing the situation from escalating further.

“This meeting is expected to take place by the end of the month or early next month, and I will personally attend them to oversee proceedings.

“We demand that all factories give utmost priority to operational safety, thoroughly reviewing their current systems to identify any potential vulnerabilities.

“While Bintulu welcomes enterprises to set up operations and invest in our region, we will not tolerate any threats to the safety of our residents,” he added. — DayakDaily
