KUCHING, May 13: An elderly woman sustained minor injuries in a fire incident involving a 12-door longhouse at Rumah (Rh) Cali at Jalan Ulu Sebauh, Kampung Serak, Bintulu, on Sunday night (May 11).
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), an emergency call was received at 10.40pm, and firefighters from the Bintulu station were deployed.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the longhouse measuring 400 x 200 square feet was destroyed in the fire, affecting approximately 89 residents.
A 65-year-old woman who sustained minor injuries to her face was treated by the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) before being brought to the hospital by her family.
Firefighters had to transfer their equipment using a boat as the incident took place across the river.
In addition to using the ground hydrant, firefighters also used an open water source via the river to extinguish the flames. — DayakDaily
