KUCHING, June 28: The Bintulu-Jepak Bridge construction project is expected to be completed by the end of September 2023, shortening the distance between Bintulu city to Bintulu airport from 25km to 10km and bringing rapid development to Jepak and coastal areas.

According to a news report published today by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Opus Consultant (M) Sdn Bhd construction manager Huang Hong Kiat said the progress of the project has reached 39 per cent.

“In early June, two tower pillars between the Kemena River Estuary were completed.

“The success of raising the two pillars of this tower is a success and a starting point for the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge implementation,” he said during a briefing to Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Meng, who reviewed the Bintulu-Jepak Bridge construction project on Saturday (June 25).

The Bintulu-Jepak Bridge is one of the projects overseen by the Coastal Second Trunk Road Unit, with a contract value of RM466,679,497 and implemented by PPES Works-CCCC JV Sdn Bhd.

It was inaugurated on July 22, 2019 by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and took 48 months to complete.

However, the construction project was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of the movement control order (MCO). — DayakDaily
