BINTULU, Nov 15: Samalaju is in need of a hospital and a larger fire and rescue (Bomba) station, says incumbent Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

He said these facilities are necessary to prepare for any incidents in Samalaju Industrial Park, which is a zone concentrated on heavy industries.

It is in his plan to request a piece of land in Samalaju from the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) for the Health Ministry to set up a small-scale hospital.

As for the Bomba station, he said the existing one is not enough in case of any fires or accidents in the industrial area.

“And we cannot depend on Bintulu Bomba because for them to reach Samalaju, it takes at least one and a half hours.

“It probably takes about 45 minutes for a normal car to drive to Samalaju, but you can’t expect a Bomba truck to drive that fast,” said Tiong, who is also Dudong assemblyman.

Meanwhile, he also brought up the need for new police quarters at the Samalaju police station.

In an exclusive interview with DayakDaily recently, he said these facilities are among his future plans for Bintulu’s development. — DayakDaily
