KUCHING, March 2: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing commended Bintulu Development Authority and the community for their swift efforts in clearing flood debris following the devastating floods that struck Bintulu earlier this year.

On his Facebook page, he pointed out that the floods that struck in late January had a significant impact on the local community.

“However, with swift action from BDA and community support, over 32,100 tonnes of flood debris were cleared within two weeks, involving 90 dump trucks, 24 heavy machinery units, and the collaboration of more than 300 volunteers.

“Additionally, the replacement of trash bins, fogging, larvaciding, and disinfection efforts were carried out to ensure the affected areas were clean and safe,” he said after attending the 86th Board Meeting of the BDA, which also focused on post-flood recovery efforts in Bintulu.

“I deeply appreciate the efficiency of BDA and the spirit of community collaboration in ensuring Bintulu’s swift recovery.

“The close cooperation between the Federal government, State government, private sector, NGOs, and local communities demonstrates our collective ability to tackle challenges together and develop Sarawak towards a more sustainable future,” Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, said.
