BINTULU, Jan 5: It took almost two hours for firefighters to dissuade a suicidal man on the third floor of a hotel this evening.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that it received the emergency call via MERS 999 at 7.42pm.

A team of nine firefighters from the Bintulu fire station led by PBK II Herman Ma’in were despatched to the scene at Jalan Masjid.

They found a man, aged 33, standing at the window of his hotel room.

The department’s fire engine (FRT) was also positioned right below the man’s room in preparation for any eventuality.

Firefighters preparing equipment to rescue the man.

Since the room was locked from the inside, firefighters had to talk and calm the man down from the next room’s window.

At 9.49pm, they managed to persuade him to open the locked door.

The man was later handed over to the police for further investigation. — DayakDaily
