KUCHING, Jan 5: The Sarawak government will bear the cost of quarantine and Covid-19 tests for children age three and above born outside Sarawak.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this applied to children whose one or both parents are Sarawakians.

“For non-Sarawakians whereby the couple is Sarawak citizens, the cost of quarantine and rT-PCR test for Covid-19 will also be borne by the Sarawak government. They will need to produce evidence with a certificate of marriage,” he disclosed when giving updates on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak at a press conference here today.

Meanwhile, Uggah who is the Deputy Chief Minister, also gave the reminder that only 50 per cent of venue capacity is allowed for the purpose of mass gathering for official and social events.

“The use must take into consideration the size of the venue space and physical distancing. For example, if the capacity of a hall is for 1,000 people at any one time, we only allow half of the capacity to occupy the hall,” he explained.

As for open spaces, he said that only 200 persons are allowed at one time.

With various parts of the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia affected by floods recently, Uggah emphasised that the respective Divisional Disaster Management Committees had been alerted.

“While they are busy with Covid-19, they are also busy preparing in the event of flooding in Sarawak.

“We have issued the SOP (standard operating procedures) to manage flooding during Covid-19 but we hope in this critical period, there will be no flooding,” he said, noting that the monsoon season could possibly impact Sarawak this month or in February. — DayakDaily
