BINTULU, Feb 1: The Bintulu Disaster Management Committee (BDMC) will establish an official donation account so that members of the public can contribute to flood relief efforts through a proper channel, says Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, said that for now, those who wish to assist can forward contributions to the Resident’s Office—namely the Disaster Management Committee Secretariat.

While waiting, he also reminded the public to be patient as the donation account or channel will be announced as soon as possible.

At the same time, he advised politicians and political parties to avoid independent fundraising and instead use their platforms to rally the public to donate through official channels to ensure funds and resources for flood relief are effectively managed and genuinely reach those in need.

He said this on his Facebook page in response to media queries regarding donation channels following a BDMC meeting yesterday (Jan 31).

His reminder, he said, is to prevent public confusion, mainly when scams are rampant, as it may encourage those with bad intentions to exploit disaster relief efforts for fraudulent gain.

“This approach helps prevent inconsistencies in donation pathways that could cause confusion, mislead the public, and create auditing difficulties in verifying the proper use of funds,” he said. — DayakDaily
