KUCHING, Dec 19: The roofing of Bintawa Hawker Centre, which was severely damaged by a thunderstorm last month, has undergone swift replacement with works succesfully completed ahead of the scheduled deadline of Dec 24.
Today, Kuching City South Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong seng awarded the project completion certificate to the contractor in recognition of their efficient restoration efforts.
This initiative stemmed from an urgent appeal by the hawkers, conveyed through a letter to MBKS on Dec 3.
The appeal was promptly processed and escalated to Deputy Minister Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, also the Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, who swiftly approved the repair request.
“The swift completion of the roof restoration is commendable, given that the structure was severely damaged and affected the daily business operations of the hawkers.
“The timely efforts of the contractor have significantly alleviated the challenges faced by the hawkers, while ensuring a safer and more conducive environment for their activities,” Wee said in a press statement following the certificate presentation at the hawker centre located in Pending Industrial Estate, Jalan Bintawa here today.
Wee expressed gratitude to the contractor for completing the project well ahead of schedule, minimising disruptions to the hawkers’ businesses.
“We are also grateful to the Deputy Premier for promptly approving the request for repair works, acknowledging the urgency of the situation,” he added.
In addition, he extended heartfelt appreciation to MBKS Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, councillors, the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), and the local community, especially the Bintawa hawkers, for their cooperation and support throughout the entire restoration project. — DayakDaily
