KUCHING, April 29: The Bidayuh community appreciates Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s visit to late Navy officer Joanna Felicia Rohna’s family upon arrival in Kuching from Poland.

Bung Bratak Heritage Association chairman Dato Peter Minos said this caring gesture will be remembered by the community for a long time.

“He (Abang Johari) just arrived from Poland on official duties and went direct to see and console the family of helicopter crash victim Joanna Felicia Rohna at Kpg Tebekang Engkeroh, Serian.

“This was great of our Premier, showing his deepest sympathy and humanity and true love for the people.

“(The gesture is) very commendable and much appreciated by the Bidayuh community, late Joanna being a Bidayuh. (The) gesture will be remembered for a long long time,” said Minos in a statement.

He noted that during the visit, Abang Johari gave RM10,000 and the promise of free education up to tertiary level to Joanna’s children—Allesia Felice Haslie (4) and Hovannes Haslie (1).

He said what Abang Johari did was not seen in many leaders.

“On a pedestal, many top people do not really bother about the small men and of their tragedies and the problems they face,” said Minos who is also Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman. — DayakDaily
