KUCHING, Dec 2: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has expressed its ambition to contest 12 seats in the upcoming Sarawak Election.

Bersatu’s Julau division chief Ambrose Labang Jamba, representing the Sarawak branch at the Bersatu’s national assembly in Shah Alam on Nov 30, claimed that the party has gained significant support and is now the strongest opposition party in Sarawak, FMT reported.

Following this, Ambrose said the upcoming State election, which must be held by April 2027, offers the party its best chance to secure seats.

During the general assembly, a motion outlining the State party’s election strategy was presented.

Ambrose further urged Bersatu’s national leaders to make frequent visits to Sarawak.

“So far, only party president Muhyiddin Yassin and Supreme Council member Wan Saiful Wan Jan have come. Other leaders need to make the effort to visit Sarawak and show their support,” he reportedly said.

Bersatu did not participate in the previous 2021 Sarawak Election, with Datuk Ali Biju stepping aside as an Independent candidate in Krian.

However, during the campaigning period, he withdrew himself from contesting in respect of his party’s decision after Bersatu announced that it would not be placing any candidate for the Sarawak polls to maintain harmony with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the ruling State coalition. – DayakDaily
