Berami beats RB Hornbills to clinch KPIT 2024 championship

KUCHING, 22 Sep: Berami Pickleball Club clinched the championship title at the Kuching Pickleball Invitational Tournament (KPIT) 2024, held at Pikabol Arena in Pending here yesterday.

The team, captained by Ming Kiong Ng, triumphed 3-1 over RB Hornbills in the final.

The victory began with Ann Liew and Elmy Muliani defeating Maggie Ng and Leetizia Liani 11-5, 11-10 in the women’s doubles.

However earlier, RB Hornbills’ Mohd Sufri claimed a point by overcoming Kenneth Tan 11-7, 11-6 in the men’s singles.

Berami regained momentum in the men’s veteran doubles, as Christopher Bishop and Muhammad Fadhil secured a 2-1 lead by beating Abdul Rahim and Hasbullah Ahmad 11-8, 11-5.

The final victory came when Ming Kiong Ng and Gilbert Yeo won the decisive men’s doubles match, overcoming Mohd Sufri and Razmee Rawi 11-5, 11-10, sealing the championship for Berami.

The prizes were presented by Business Events Sarawak Chief Executive Officer, Amelia Roziman.

Also in attendance was the President of the Kuching Pickleball Association, Ruslan Bujang.

Meanwhile, Pikabol Arena, recognised as Asia’s largest pickleball complex, is set to host the Borneo Pickleball International Tournament (BPIT) 2024 from October 8 to 14.

The event is expected to attract 500 players from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines, all competing for a prize pool of RM20,000. — DayakDaily
