KUCHING, March 23: Benchmarking with other City Councils is one way for each city to advance in terms of city administration, smart city ideas, and tourism, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He stated this following a courtesy visit from the Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI) delegation led by Mayor of Ipoh Datuk Rumaizi Baharin on March 21, 2022 at the Mayor’s Office in Jalan Padungan.

According to a press release, a group of 42 officers, including the Mayor, Councillors, and MBI Officers, visited MBKS for benchmarking and sharing purposes in terms of tourism and the Kuching gastronomy journey.

During the meeting, the Council discussed Kuching as a Gastronomy City and how Kuching South recently received the ASEAN Tourist City Standard Award, as well as exchanging ideas and sharing experiences between the two Councils, as both are City Councils.

“I’d like to express my gratitude to Datuk Rumaizi Baharin and MBI for selecting MBKS for benchmarking purposes.

“This means that MBKS has the potential and capability to serve as a model for other City Councils,” Wee said.

He continued by saying that both Councils should learn from each other, and that MBKS should take this opportunity to learn more about other City Councils.

“I welcomed the delegation to Kuching and hoped they had a wonderful time exploring the city, which has a lot to offer both local and international tourists.

“It is a great opportunity to meet with other City Councils in Malaysia.

“Both City Councils have a lot in common, and this type of sharing session will allow us to learn more from each other, especially when it comes to managing and administering the City,” Wee said.

During the courtesy visit, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin was accompanied by Tuan Ahmad Munir bin Ishak (MBI City Secretary), Councillor Mohader Ahmad bin Mohammad Ayob, Councillor Abu Bakar bin Haji Hussian, and Councillor Mohamad Annuar bin Baharudin.

Meanwhile, MBKS representatives, MBKS Deputy Mayor Tuan Haji Hilmy and Puan Hajjah Zainab binti Haji Marzali (Acting City Secretary) joined Wee for the courtesy visit. — DayakDaily
