Beliong’s new landmarks: Fo Guang See Temple ready in 2–3 years, Yuanchen Hall to house 60 Tai Sui statues

KUCHING, Aug 7: The Fo Guang See Temple, envisioned as a future hub for worship and tourism, is expected to be completed within two to three years, while the Taoism-inspired Yuanchen Hall will house 60 Tai Sui statues and other revered deities, further enriching Beliong’s spiritual and cultural landscape.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the launch of the two landmark projects was celebrated with a vibrant groundbreaking ceremony today at the football field of SJK(C) Chung Hua Beliong in Asajaya District.

The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who emphasised the significance of racial and religious harmony in Sarawak while lauding the community’s initiative to preserve and strengthen local culture.

Over 120 guests attended the event, which was enlivened by traditional lion dance and kompang performances, as well as religious rituals including the consecration of deity statues and spiritual purification, symbolising unity in Sarawak’s cultural diversity.

In a show of support, the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) contributed RM1 million towards the temple’s development. The symbolic cheque handover was witnessed by Dr Sim during the ceremony, held in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual goodwill.

Among those present were Samarahan division deputy resident Rais Ahmat, representing the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts (MTCP) Sarawak; Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng; Unifor director Dato Georgina Apphia Ngau; and Asajaya district officer Jerry Zannuddin Bidin. — DayakDaily
