KUCHING, July 10: The historic Fuk Tek Kung Temple in Beliong, Asajaya has received a timely boost in the form of a development grant from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to support much-needed upgrades to its infrastructure and basic facilities.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the cheque presentation ceremony was officiated by Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah at the Ministry’s Office in Baitulmakmur Buidling on Wednesday (July 9).
The temple’s management committee chairman, Lee Vui Shin, accepted the cheque on behalf of the temple.
Lee expressed his gratitude, noting that the funds will be used to repair the temple’s ageing structure, acquire new equipment, and improve overall safety and comfort for worshippers and visitors alike.
“This contribution is deeply meaningful to our community. It not only uplifts the temple committee’s efforts, but also reflects the Sarawak government’s sincere commitment to supporting all places of worship, regardless of religion or ethnicity,” he said.
He added that Fuk Tek Kung Temple is more than a spiritual site; it is a cherished symbol of cultural heritage and identity for the Chinese community in Kampung Beliong.
With this funding, the temple is expected to continue serving as a spiritual and cultural anchor, promoting harmony and unity among the local population. — DayakDaily
