Belaga’s Long Urun Cluster swells to 360 cases overnight with 281 more Covid-19 cases reported today

KUCHING, Aug 21: The Long Urun Cluster in interior Belaga that involved a longhouse has ballooned to 360 cases overnight after an alarming 281 new Covid-19 cases were recorded, while no new clusters were declared in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, reported that the Long Urun Cluster was among 15 active clusters in the State which saw an increase in daily infections with total cases of 380 contributed to today’s caseload of 1,964.

The Long Urun Cluster was declared yesterday after 79 residents of a longhouse contracted Covid-19.


As of today, a total of 699 individuals have been screened, whereby 200 have tested negative while 109 are still awaiting lab test results.

Belaga is the second district in Sarawak with the highest number of cases reported today at 285, after Kuching which has continued to top the list at 697 cases.

With the worsening Covid-19 situation in Belaga, SDMC has ordered 22 localities in Belaga to be placed under lockdown, involving 15 longhouses, four oil palm estates, one Putra Mas Urun Camp, one Kemas pre-school and SEB Solar Energy Quarters.

The other active clusters which registered more cases were Kampung Kakeng in Serian which added 27 more cases; Jalan Lembah Hijau in Miri (25 cases); Jalan Serringok in Bau (14 cases); Bungey 2 in Betong (9 cases); Kampung Muara Tebas in Kuching (6 cases); while Jalan Kemena Industry Estate 38 in Bintulu and Lubuk Bukut in Mukah (3 cases each).

Kampung Quop Cluster in Kuching, Sungai Menok Cluster in Beluru, Jalan Akses Cluster in Sri Aman, Tanjung Kibong 2 Cluster in Sibu, Ensebang Plaie Cluster in Serian added two cases each; while Kampung Bunuk Cluster in Kuching and Kandis Pantu Cluster in Sri Aman added one case each.

SDMC has also today declared the end of two clusters, namely Sungai Bedil Besar in Kuching and Pasar Basah Mukah in Mukah, after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With that, the number of active clusters in Sarawak remains unchanged at 116. — DayakDaily
