KUCHING, June 3: The Belaga-Menjawah Road which is scheduled is currently 13.15 per cent completed.

The road which links the town of Belaga to Bakun Road was constructed under the Jiwa Murni Programme and was completed in 2016.

Sarawak Works Department said in a press statement today that the Sarawak government has decided to upgrade and rehabilitate this 33.8km-road to R1 JKR standard.

“The physical progress is 13.15 per cent at the moment and is scheduled to be completed in May 2020.”

The department pointed out that a longer time is required to upgrade and rehabilitate this road to JKR R1 Standard which was previously constructed under the Jiwa Murni programme.

The completion of the upgrading and rehabilitation of this road will provide a better and safer travelling experience to road users, particularly to the people of Belaga.

Belaga town is linked to Bakun Dam through the Belaga-Menjawah Road. From there, Belaga town is linked to Bintulu and from Bintulu, to other parts of Sarawak.

Before the building of the road, Belaga was only linked to other parts of Sarawak by river transport which means passing through multiple treacherous rapids. — DayakDaily
