Be lawmakers, not lawbreakers, says Sim to DAP after roadsign incident

The street name sign board that was replaced by the local council in Stakan recently.

KUCHING, Aug 21: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok said that Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak should have used proper channels to request for the Mandarin names to be included in the local street name signboards.

Sim in a press statement today, said that instead of doing it themselves, DAP Sarawak should have written a request to Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to replace the missing Mandarin names.

“They are also lawmakers and they should not be lawbreakers. They are setting a very bad example to all and might create chaos and lawlessness for our orderly Sarawak. Their act is totally not acceptable of a political party with a great number of members that are lawyers,” he said.

According to Sim, DAP Sarawak claimed that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was “kowtowing” (bow down) to United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Malay and Islamic agenda, which is not true.

He said GPS has always been an inclusive and moderate government and DAP Sarawak was using negative propaganda to break up the precious unity just to win votes.

“It is very irresponsible of DAP Sarawak to disrupt our peaceful and harmonious society. DAP Sarawak is doing the Malayan politics of race and religion which is bad for all of us and has been rejected by any decent Sarawakian.

“Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) do not use race and religion to win Sarawakian votes, but instead gain the support through our policy of divest, multiracial and power sharing among all Sarawakian. GPS will not leave anyone behind and protect our Unity in our diversity,” he said.

For example, he added, in Stakan recently, the local council there have the same problem with the road signs, and DAP is trying to capitalise on the technical problem too, as the missing Mandarin names were promptly replaced by the Council.

“Sarawakian should stop being aroused and misled by the DAP. They have not performed in the 22 months as Federal Government and have shown us they have the ability not to hold on to their promises.

“We have tried them and they are really no good. Even the Padungan assemblywomen Wong King Wei, have also resigned from the party to show that DAP is not for Sarawak,” he added.–DayakDaily.
