KUCHING, June 22: The Bau Karst Geosites development project will take two years to implement, with the completion estimated to be in 2024.
In revealing this, Mineral And Geoscience Malaysia (JMG) Sarawak director Roslan Rajali, said this development project covers three targeted locations, namely the Wind Cave, Paku Rock Maze Garden and Merembeh Caving Park.
Roslan revealed the objective of the project is to carry out the geosite mapping process in detail.
“JMG is very committed to ensuring that this objective can be realised without neglecting the interests of any party.
“The mapping process involves characterising geological diversity, determining the heritage value, site delineation and proposing works to be done in the project area,” he said before the launching of the ‘Engagement Session on Bau Karst Geosite Development Project Bau, Sarawak Tourism Products’ at Bau Civic Centre, Bau, today.
Roslan continued to say that the Bau Karst Geosite Development Project also plays a role in preparing a plan to preserve the important features and the site conservation process.
“Indirectly, this effort will open an opportunity for Karst Bau Geosite to be promoted as one of the State’s geotourism products,” he said. — DayakDaily
