KUCHING, Feb 11: Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang will continue to push for a fire station to be built in his constituency with the funding requested from the State government.

This came after the Batu Kitang constituency didn’t make the cut when the Federal Ministry of Local Government and Housing (MLGH) revealed plans to build new fire stations in Sarawak, including Batu Kawa and Kota Sentosa constituencies.

“I have been working with an architect to initiate the construction of a fire station in Batu Kitang. Once the planning is done, we will propose to the State Planning Authority for approval.

“I cannot wait for the federal government—it is too long. They have promised many things, but it is never done,” he told reporters during a Chinese New Year (CNY) open house at his residence here today.

Elaborating on the progress, Lo explained that his team had identified a piece of land in Batu Kitang, which would be a strategic site for the construction of the fire station.

On Nov 6, 2023, Federal Minister of Local Government and Housing, Nga Kor Ming, during the official opening of Asajaya Fire Station in Kota Samarahan, revealed that the ministry has approved RM13.2 million to enhance firefighting and rescue services in Sarawak.

The sum, he said, covers the construction of the Sungai Asap Fire Station and firefighter quarters at Tatau Fire Station and Daro Fire Station for this year.

Additionally, the ministry plans to build new fire stations in Tanjung Manis, Julau, Lubok Antu, Batu Kawa and Kota Sentosa. — DayakDaily
