KUCHING, May 23: To ensure a safe and secure play environment for children, Padawan Municipal (MPP) has opted to use rubberised flooring crafted from recycled tyres to upgrade the floor of the swing playground floor at Batu Kawah Riverbank Park, says its chairman Tan Kai.

Tan Kai elaborated that this is an MPP initiative for members of the public and he thanked local wastewater management solutions provider, Sar-Alam Indah Sdn Bhd, which sponsored the rubberised floor.

“The primary objective is not only to reduce waste such as rubber tyres in Sarawak but also to envision that the playground flooring upgrade will allow children to enjoy their playtime, fostering community well-being and inspire others to prioritise environmental stewardship,” he said.

Tan Kai told reporters this when met at the playground after inspecting the rubberised floor at the swing playground and receiving a sponsor sign board from Sar-Alam Indah Sdn Sdn at the park today.

He added that the rubber flooring has numerous benefits including exceptional durability and resilience, enhanced safety, and minimal maintenance requirements.

Sar-Alam Indah Sdn Bhd director Abang Zulkarnain Openg said that utilising recycled rubber tyres not only helps to reduce waste but also promotes a circular economy.

“Sar-Alam Indah remains committed to environmental sustainability and looks forward to further opportunities to support initiatives that benefit both the community and the planet,” he said.
