KUCHING, March 21: A former convict with a prior rape case has been ordered to be remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of a woman’s murder in Batu Kawa.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan against the 25-year-old suspect under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The suspect, who works as a cleaner at a construction site, will be held for seven days, from March 22 to March 28, for further investigation.
The remand application was submitted by Investigating Officer ASP Sylvarius Gopog.
Police apprehended the suspect on the evening of March 20. The investigation is being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Previously, media reports highlighted the discovery of a woman’s body in a rented room in Batu Kawa around 2pm on February 6.
The victim was found lying face down with a piece of fabric wrapped around her neck, indicating that she was strangled. — DayakDaily
