Batu Kawa Mooncake Festival kicks off Sept 13–22 with 140 stalls, to feature light show, boxing

KUCHING, Sept 12: Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also the Batu Kawah assemblyman, announced that the highly anticipated Batu Kawa Old Town Mooncake Festival at the Batu Kawa Old Town here is set to begin this Friday, Sept 13, and will run until Sept 22.

According to Dr Sim in a video uploaded on his official Facebook page, the 10-day festival will feature 140 stalls, bringing together a wide variety of local goods and festive treats.

He highlighted the efforts of the local temple community in preparing for the event, with the temples undergoing elaborate decorations in anticipation of the famous light show that draws visitors each year.

“The temple community has been very busy decorating the temples, and we will also have our famous light show,” he said.

In addition to the light show, the festival will include a number of exciting activities.

Visitors can look forward to musical performances, lantern giveaways, and a range of events at Batu Kawa Riverbank Park.

The community park will host activities such as skateboarding and street dancing, offering entertainment for people of all ages.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG), further mentioned that an exciting highlight of the festival will be a boxing event, which will take place from Sept 16 to Sept 18 at Batu Kawa Old Town hall.
