KUCHING, May 26: A new Subang-Kuching route will be launched by Batik Air on July 28, 2025, further strengthening air connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.
Sarawak Minister for Transport, Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, announced the new route during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) here today.
“In the first quarter of 2025, there were 37 international flights weekly to Sarawak. An average of 427 weekly flights were recorded from other states of Malaysia to Sarawak including federal territories,” he said.
Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the existing routes are served by Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Batik Air, Firefly, MASwings, AirAsia Indonesia, Scoot, and Royal Brunei Airlines.
Among Sarawak’s airports, Lee highlighted that Kuching International Airport recorded the highest weekly flight frequency with 216 flights, followed by Miri (99), Sibu (55), Bintulu (45), Mulu (7), Limbang (3), and Lawas (2).
“For Sarawak domestic flights or scheduled flights within Sarawak, there are an average of 620 flights weekly in the first quarter connecting Sarawak major cities, towns, and rural settlements under the Rural Air Services (RAS).
“Miri airport manned the highest number with 181 flights weekly, followed by Kuching (142), Sibu (66), and Bintulu (40),” he added.
The Transport Minister further stated that the remaining flights were to smaller airports and STOLports.
“The flight operations are operated by AirAsia, Firefly, and MASwings,” he said. — DayakDaily
