KUCHING, Sept 22: The 9.43km road stretching from Batang Sadong Bridge to Kampung Sabun, Simunjan will be upgraded to JKR R3 Standard two-lane single carriageway using Cold In-situ Pavement Recycling (CIPR) technology with bituminous seal surface dressing.

Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said CIPR is new in terms of construction materials and is considered a pilot project by the ministry for road construction in peat soil areas.

Although the cost is higher, he said it is a better construction method compared to conventional road construction as the roads will be of better quality.

“The current work on the said road is still at sub-base preparation level, and laying of geotextiles. Once testing has been performed and the prime seal finish surface is done, the final dressing follows with surface dressings performed in accordance with the specification,” he said in a statement today.

Another pilot project on mineral soil using the same CIPR technology is located at the 19km Ulu Suai Road, where it is almost completed.

A site visit was conducted on Sept 20 on the Batang Sadong road stretch to check the progress of the project.

Among others present at the site visit were Assistant Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi, Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang, Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd project engineer, Public Works Department (JKR) engineers, and other government officers. — DayakDaily
